My research focuses on the host/pathogen/symbiote interface, paying particular attention to the enteric virus/microbiota/immune system interplay in context of human diseases such as norovirus and rotavirus infection, IBD and colorectal cancer.

I will use genetic approach like CRISPR, different mouse models, and next-generation sequencing to define the mechanisms and pathways that control disease pathogenesis and immunity. Specific directions will be: 1) Study how Nod-like receptors recognize pathogens and danger signals in intestine; 2) Study how T cells maintain intestinal homeostasis and how to modulate T cell responses to alleviate inflammatory diseases and cancer; 3) Study how enteric virus and gut microbiota affect immune system and related diseases.
