Dr. Hongbin Yao is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and PI of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale. 
Dr. Yao was born in 1983 in Chongqing, China. He obtained the B.S. degree from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2006 and received PhD degree in inorganic chemistry from Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale in 2011. He subsequently joined Prof. Yi Cui’s group at Stanford University as a Postdoc from 2012 to 2015. After the postdoctoral experience at Stanford University, he joined the faculty of USTC in 2015. His interest is in the development of light and strong hierarchical structural bio-inspired materials and high energy density lithium metal based batteries. He has published over 70 papers in prestigious journals (Nat. Commun., Chem. Soc. Rev., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater., etc.) with over 2600 citations (H-index 30).
