Liu-Zhu Gong was born in October 1970 in Henan, China. He graduated from Henan Normal University (1993) and received his Ph.D. (2000) from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was a visiting scholar (Joint PhD graduate student program) at the University of Virginia and an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at the University of Munich (2003-2004). He was appointed an associate professor of Chengdu Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2000 and was promoted to a full professor in 2001. Since 2006, he has been a full professor of University of Science and Technology of China. He was appointed the Cheung Kong Scholar Professor of organic chemistry in 2007.
